Fall Bugs
December 21, 2025:
Lisa Loucks-Christenson has officially stepped from Fall into Winter — and completed Fall Bugs, the fourth and final book in her Four Seasons Southeastern Minnesota Bugs Series!
This milestone marks the completion of a 20-year journey that began with Winter Bugs — first exhibited at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota, running from the first day of winter through the exact minute of spring 2006. During that time, Lisa photographed more than 200 species of insects, spiders, beetles, and water crustaceans.
The first Winter Bugs book and trading cards sold out long ago, but there’s good news — the 20th Anniversary Edition is coming in 2026!
This series began as a side documentary to her bestselling Walk The Burn project and continued at her own registered wildlife refuge, the Laurie (Loucks) Burt Wildlife Sanctuary, named in honor of her sister.
At exactly 9:02:59 a.m., as Winter 2025 arrived — with the temperature just 6°F and wind chills near -15°F — Lisa captured the final subject of Fall Bugs. The moment became a powerful metaphor for the entire Four Seasons series: the completion of a creative and natural cycle.
The full Four Seasons Bugs Series will release in 2026.
