“From Wildlands to Amplifiers: How ‘Broken Sanctuary’ Became a Heavy‑Metal Testament of Faith, Survival, and Hope”

“From Wildlands to Amplifiers: How ‘Broken Sanctuary’ Became a Heavy‑Metal Testament of Faith, Survival, and Hope”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rochester, Minn., Jan. 10, 2026

Award‑winning author, illustrator, photographer and independent singer‑songwriter Lisa Loucks‑Christenson today announced the release of the third track from her forthcoming album Broken Sanctuary. While the full 13‑song collection is slated for a later launch, the new single has been reimagined in a range of heavy‑metal sub‑genres—including traditional heavy metal, progressive metal, folk‑metal, melodic‑death‑metal (clean‑vocal version) and atmospheric post‑metal—to reach listeners who favor powerful storytelling set to thunderous music.

Loucks‑Christenson said the album is “a raw, honest chronicle of the good, the bad and the ugly—beauty and ashes, a mixed tribute to God.” By pairing her deeply personal lyrics with the intensity of metal, she hopes to underscore the album’s core message: answers and blessings rise from pain, and God’s love endures even when homes and wildlife sanctuaries are under attack.

Personal inspiration behind the project
Years ago, while covering a Billy Graham event, Loucks‑Christenson witnessed a band called DC Talk perform their 1995 song “Jesus Freak” as one of the evening’s acts. That night marked three pivotal moments for her:

  1. She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior.
  2. She captured soul‑stirring photographs of Billy Graham that remain among her most treasured images.
  3. She discovered a band whose sound resonated so deeply that, three decades later, it still beats in her heart and fuels the creation of songs meant to inspire.

Those experiences, combined with the harrowing journey of watching her husband battle aggressive cancer for a second time, led her and her family to lean heavily on their faith while living and working in their wildlife sanctuary. The resulting music reflects those “demon‑verses” moments and the steadfast hope that carried them through.

Highlights of the new single

  • Heavy‑metal fusion – The track blends galloping traditional metal riffs, progressive odd‑time sections, folk‑metal acoustic textures and post‑metal atmospheric swells, capturing the turbulence of a threatened sanctuary while preserving moments of quiet reflection.
  • Story‑song structure – Narrative verses recount the family’s real experiences; soaring choruses deliver anthemic declarations of divine protection, appealing to fans of lyrical storytelling across metal and Christian‑music circles.
  • Dynamic production – Loucks‑Christenson layered multiple recordings to create vocal parts she did not perform herself, arranging, mixing and producing every instrument—from distorted guitars to field recordings of wildlife.
  • Future fully sung releases – Although the current version mixes instrumental and partially sung passages, fully vocalized renditions of several songs will be issued later.
  • Preview available now – Select tracks, including the newly released heavy‑metal single, can be streamed at https://archives.lisalc.com.

“This album is my life laid bare—every triumph, every trial, every scar on the land we love,” Loucks‑Christenson said. “Wrapping those stories in the fire and fury of metal lets listeners feel the same heartbeat of struggle and the steady pulse of God’s love that carried us through. This is as raw as it gets, and I’m grateful to share it with anyone walking a similar path.”
